2.7 LAKH GRAMIN DAK SEVAKS INDEFINITE STRIKE FROM 18TH FEBRUARY

“2.7 Lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks working in 1,29,036 post offices in rural India are going on indefinite strike from 18th February 2014”  S.S. Mahadevaiah General Secretary All India Gramin Dak Sevaks union said.


        All India Gramin Dak Sevaks union issued indefinite strike notice on 29th January 2014 for the cause of justified demands of Gramin Dak Sevaks. Negotiations were held on 12th February 2014 with top officers in the Dak Bhavan. As there was no positive response.from the officers, Indefinite strike is inevevitable Mahadevaiah said.


      The main demands of Gramin Dak Sevaks are

1.      Inclusion of GDS wage structure and services conditions in the purview of 7th central pay commission.

2.      Grant civil servants status to Gramin Dak Sevaks.

3.      Scrap revised recruitment rules and restore previous recruitment rules.

4.      Provide cent percent compassionate appointment to the wards of deceased GDS employees.

5.      Merger of 50% D.A. with pay for GDS.

6.      Regularization of casual, part time, contingent employees and revision of their wages with effect from 01.01.2006 and grant of DA.



   The wage structure and services conditions of Gramin Dak Sevaks were kept in the purview of first central pay commission. The 4th central pay commission also expressed its view for inclusion of the EDAs in pay commission.


   The judgment of apex court clearly stated that the EDAs (now GDS) are holders of civil post.



    In the wake of the above views the demands of Gramin Dak Sevaks May be considered positively.
